"Ice Freezes Red"
Set in the rugged streets of Little Saigon ICE FREEZES RED is the story of MIKA LEE, a beautiful, disaffected 23 year old girl who, as a teenager, suffered a deep catatonic coma. When she regains consciousness five years later she finds herself in a cruel world she doesn't recognize.
Her only trusted friend is her brother, DANTE LEE. Once innocent and caring, he’s now caught in a culture of violence and has turned into a merciless gun for hire. His love for MIKA is still strong but he’s become obsessively protective of her and desperately wants to shield her from learning the true events that shattered their lives as children and sent her into her coma years ago.
Having lost five years of her life, MIKA finds safe harbor on life’s perimeter. She copes with the difficulties of piecing her life back together by avoiding “deep” relationships and closing her eyes to her brother’s criminal activities. And always looming on the other side of her fragile veil of reality is her dream state. Her sub-conscious not only provides an escape from the troubles she can’t deal with, it also seems to hold important truths about her sullen past.
When a mysterious (and deadly) stranger enters MIKA and DANTE’s lives, she finally learns the shocking facts about their brutal past and the ultimate tragedy that looms in their future. Faced with the harsh unavoidable truth, she begins to drift in and out of her former dream world and her quiet, controlled existence begins to derail into madness.
With its poignant blend of tense human struggle and clashing cultural moralities, ICE FREEZES RED displays poetic allegory not only in its character studies but in the fierce battles that are part of life in the violent underbelly of Little Saigon
